As soon as the first rays of sunshine appear outside or when your plane ticket is booked, you naturally only think about one thing: sunbathing, baking, roasting. Of course, you don't want to burn immediately after the first five minutes in the sun. That's why in this blog you can read all about building up a treatment for a sun holiday, for example, and how you can best prepare your skin so that you can enjoy a wonderful summer in your own country without any worries.
Natural protection factor
You've been counting down for months and you're finally going on vacation in two weeks. But to a country that is close to the equator (pretty much any country compared to the Netherlands). There the UVB (burning) content is a lot higher than in our little country. It is therefore wise to prepare your skin for UV light so that your skin is used to it when you go on holiday. During those two weeks, it is not the intention to use the sunbed as often as you can. It is always recommended to leave at least 48 hours between sun sessions, so that your skin can recover and you can achieve optimal results.
When your skin becomes irritated and burns, it can actually be counterproductive. Rather, take your time and let your skin get used to the UV light. In this way you build up a natural protection factor, which can amount to approximately factor 10. This is of course no excuse not to use SPF during your holiday, but it does ensure that you burn much less quickly. So you can enjoy more and - if you suffer from it - there is little or no chance of sun allergy during your holiday.
Treatment for everyone
Pre-tanning is therefore always a good idea. Not only if you go on holiday to a sunny country, but also if you want to enjoy the sun in the Netherlands or for a special occasion such as the wedding of your best friend. When you should start building up your treatment depends very much on your skin type, how easily you tan and how long you maintain your complexion. Urgency is rarely a good thing and that also applies to building up a tan. Better to start too early than to start at the last minute.
If you use a tanning bed for the first time or for the first time in a long time, a skin analysis will be taken at the tanning salon. This analysis provides advice on which tanning bed is most suitable for your skin type. But in general it is recommended to sunbathe every 3 to 4 days, at least twice a week so that you can build up the desired tan. Take into account the 48 hours that there must be between sun sessions. In this course of treatment you can of course also go a few minutes longer or ultimately go a level higher. Once you have achieved the desired color, you naturally want to keep your color. This also varies per person, but usually once a week or two weeks is sufficient.
Are you coming to sunbathe for a special occasion? The following also applies: start on time! Of course you don't want to show up at that cool party or at your best friend's wedding with a red face. That is why we recommend that you sunbathe for the last time a day before. This way your skin has enough time to recover and get rid of any red color or imperfection.
Sun allergy and pre-tanning
As we have just mentioned, it can really be a solution for people with sun allergies to prepare the skin for the outdoor sun by using a tanning bed. When you do this, make sure you apply a good amount of sunscreen sunbed cream . This way you can get your skin used to the UV light. This creates a natural skin thickening that ensures that they almost or no longer suffer from this allergy in the summer. In addition, you should of course use a good, protective one when exposed to the outdoor sun sunscreen !
